Giving back to the AT

What do the other alumni’s do to give back to the trail. Trail maintenence is a big time thing, but if you don’t live next to the trail, its a hard thing to do. Giving advise is a big thing I would love to do, which is why I’m visiting this site again. What other websites are there that are full of thru-hikers-to-be (outside of wingnuts site).
The trail has been such an important part of my maturity and success in my adult life so far and I’m wondering what ways can I give back to the trail community?

There are lots of ways that you can give back to the trail.

First, anyone can join the ATC and their maintaining clubs. Clubs can always use the money.

If you don’t live close enough to the trail for regular maintenance, then consider joining one of the many week long work trips.

Or, join a trail club that is local to where you live, and get active. Certainly there are plenty of trails that need help besides the AT.

I love posts like this.

You wanting to give back to the Trail speaks much of your passion towards life, people and the AT. Thank you for your contribution.

If you would contact the person listed below, I believe she would appreciate talking to you about this. And come to a hiker event: The Gathering, the Rucks, etc. Good luck!

Pick a shelter near you and do some recon one weekend. The next weekend bring some trash bags, a shovel to clean out the fire pit-waste not disposed of near the water source or haul it out, and do some minor repairs you think you can handle like removing sharp edges from any exposed tin or splintered wood that might cut someone, reset the floor board nails, throw a fresh seat on the privy, level the picnic table if it has one.
