Glacier Peak Detour '08

Haven’t seen any threads about this so figured I’d post one. As of this year the original PCT route is “passable” through Glacier Peak Wilderness. It was freakin awesome. There are absurd and ridiculous blowdowns for many miles and a few moderately sketchy log crossings, the worst being the Suiattle River. Everyone built up this crossing to be very poor and many people supposedly scooted across the log on their rear but after all the blowdown navigation I felt like I was on top of my game with balance. I hope PCT thruhikers and longdistance hikers continue to take this route and hopefully an effort towards trail clearing will begin. Happy trails all!

Hey Canyon Man,

I hiked the Glacier Peak “closed” section of PCT in '05 & had a blast too. It was probably the best part of my thru-hike.

But… I ended up recommending it to all the NOBO thru-hikers that I ran into (i flipped that year to Canada) & some of them were kinda pissed - they told me that they nearly died… So for those with a low tolerance for adventure & a bit of danger, its maybe not the best route.(’:)’)
