Good 2 week hike?

Hi all,
I’m trying to squeeze in a 2 week hike this August and would love to hit up a particularly amazing part of the PCT. I did the JMT a few summers ago and it was incredible, but it’d be fun to check out another section. Maybe someplace in Oregon or Washington? Cascades perhaps?

I would love any ideas for a great section that you’d suggest in August with amazing mountains and NO other people - ha

Thanks for any suggestions!

If you want solitude, stay off the PCT. It’s very crowded in August. We saw 20-50 people a day in the more scenic parts of Oregon.

One of my favorite sections of the PCT is Section P in northern California. Marble Mountain Wilderness and the edge of the Trinities. Maybe start in Ashland and head south or go to Castella and head north.

If you really want a solitary hike - head for the Bitterroots in Montana or the South San Juans in Colorado. Gorgeous and much less crowded.

I’d start at Manning Park and go south through as much of Washington as you have time for. That was my favorite part of the whole trail.

I’d reverse markv’s suggestion and start at Snoqualmie Pass (I-90) and hike north through the Alpine Lakes, Henry M. Jackson, Glacier Peak, and Pasayten Wildernesses to Manning Park. You can get from Manning to Vancouver, BC via Greyhound, then Greyhound back to Seattle. Contact the PCT-L to arrange a lift from Seattle up to Snoqualmie Pass. This is really spectacular, though you will see others. The distance is around 250 miles (?).

If you are willing to get off the PCT, you can form a big loop in the Pasayten Wilderness of close to 200 miles and see few people. The area is just drop dead gorgeous. For some pics, go to:

I crossed the Pasayten on the PNT last summer and saw only a few people. You’ll have to scroll one day down as I was on foot and hoofed it into the mountains from down low on roads.
