Good halfway point

I will be thru-hiking the AT in 2006. I am wondering where a good halfway point on the AT is where I could meet my wife. She will be flying in from Texas. I don’t want to travel too far from the trail and I don’t want her to have rent a car and travel too far either. Am I asking for too much?

I’m assuming you mean just to meet up with her for a couple of days (rather than hike with her?) I would say the best place to do that is Harpers Ferry. It is the mental half way point and a town filled with great U.S. History. Plus it has a decent hotel or two. The draw back would be that it is not near a food resupply. The walk downtown to the historic district is well worth it (I could have spent a week down there). Just my thoughts…good luck and enjoy your hike.

She can fly into Wash., D.C. then take the train from there to Harper’s Ferry. About an hour ride. Stay at the Hilltop House Hotel which overlooks the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers.
