Hello!

Anyone come across a good AT journal this year? I would like to follow a few, but I haven’t found one that’s grabbed me just yet ( to be fair I haven’t reviewed many)–last yeat I really liked Portrait’s writing and story telling skills.

suggestions for 2012? How about your favorite AT Journals in general?

Thank you!

I’m slightly prejudiced because they are friends and fellow Oregonians: “Balls” and his daughter “Sunshine.” Sunshine is just about to turn 12. They both completed the PCT last year. http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=364996

I am partial to Sterling Coleman’s Eastern Continental Trail journal, because he is my son. Good writing, lots of good pictures. A little behind on posting. Started in Key West and is now in Virginia, so you have a lot of adventure to read. Writes one entry for each day.

If you liked Portrait from last year, I think you will like SeeksIt’s journal from this year. Similar kind of thoughtfulness in the writing. Balls and Sunshine have an interesting story but he is so bitter, subtly crass, and self-absorbed that as much as I want to follow them, I get annoyed.

I enjoyed Portrait’s journal last year so I am glad for the recommendation of Seeksit’s journal. I have checked out about a dozen journals this year and the best one seems to be Badger.

I am following Second Chance and also Two Isle. I usually stick with people until they start doing a lot of slack packing and skipping around. I’m also interested in older hikers since I’m in my 60’s.

Hi flicka,
My name is DreamWalker. I did a thru-hike on the A.T. in 2011. My entry at the libraries along the trail was how I kept my family informed of where I was on my 2181 mile journey with God. There is a lot of information and pictures of the A.T. I hope this help you. To go to my site go to trailjournals/DreamWalker. Happy Trails!!!:cheers

Agreed, Lemurs 2011 journal was great! Duct Tape from 2001 is also good. This year I’m following Mouse, Achilles, and Diesel. Maren Turro looked promising but hasn’t updated since late march. Hope this helps.

It’s Seeks It, two words. His journal is under the 2012 currently hiking AT section if you need to find it. Also liking Achilles’ journal this year, too!

I’ve been reading Sterling Coleman’s ECT journal from day 1, and haven’t found many others that have kept my interest. Check it out.

I second seeking out Seeks Its journals on the AT this year. Also enjoying Boston and Cubby’s journals on the ADT. And for something a little different, an esoteric voice from the go slow, go heavy crowd, I’ve been following Tipi Walter for years. He’s one of the most prolific writers and backpackers I’ve seen on TJ. He gets more bag nights than thru hikers and does an excellent job demonstrating winter backpacking techniques.

The best journal ever is gatorgump’s from 2007. This year I’m enjoying both Lake and Sterling’s Eastern Continental Trail journals and Seeks It’s beautiful pictures(especially if you click to enlarge them…they look like 3-D!)
