There are no lost battles or wars, only learning experiences.

Is it better to try and not succeed, then never to try at all. I choose the former. I choose to dance the dance, to chance the rapids, to dance the tide…

In my book, if you start an AT thru hike, you are a winner already… Think about how many who would love to, but never do…Good luck to all…Keep on hiking…

Every hiker who starts a thru-hike shares two certainties; One morning they will awake and know this is the first day of their great adventure. And one morning each awake and know this is their last day on the trail. Sometimes the last day happens at Katahdin, sometimes not. Either way, a great adventure has been experienced. Enjoy the journey, that is the achievement.

Good luck to you guys this year. Take your time and enjoy yourself. Just do yourself a favor and don’t allow yourself to shortcut your hike. You can make it and it will probably be the only time in your life you do something like this. You will rememeber every little thing you did that wasn’t within what you expected of yourself. Treat it as journey.

A true journey is an adventure fueled by the heart and guided by the soul.

Good Luck Class of 2003.
I will butcher my favorate quote again. Its not the end of the journey that matters, its the journey itself.
With any luck I will be able to give some trail magic by the end of the season.

I’ll add my favorite trail quote…

“The trail is the thing, not the end of the trail. Travel too fast and you miss all you are traveling for.”
