Gossamer Gear "The One"

Just curious if anyone out there has picked up the new Gossamer Gear tent called “The One”. it looks a lot like the six moon lunar solo (which I used last year on my thru and loved)…only smaller and lighter!

For just over 1 pound, it looks like GG might be giving Six Moons and Mr. Shires some new competition.

Yep; just put “one” on the CC. Doing a short LT this summer and I plan to hike light.

I purchased The One right after it came out. Unfortunately, I’ve only had one opportunity to sleep in it, and that was after snow blowing a patch of ground in my backyard to set it up. Still have snow on the ground now.

The tent pitches easily, is taut, temps were in the 20’s the night I slept out - had no condensation problems. Also had about two inches of snow fall during the night, did cause some sagging, but nothing detrimental. Wouldn’t take it where I was expecting a lot of snow on a regular basis, but it seems it will handle some ok.

Substantial interior room, good head room, able to sit up using some care not to brush the tent immediately above your head, but no contortions needed. I think I will be very happy with this purchase.

Be real careful with the spinnaker cloth. I used the Gossamer Gear G-5 pack, spinnaker version (7 oz), on the CDT last year. I loved the pack and it lasted almost exactly as long as Glen predicted (60 days), but it took a lot of duct tape patches to make it last. The first day I packed it, I pushed a tent pole right through it. (My partner for the entire 60 days had the silnylon G-5 (9 oz) and he never had a single hole.) I replaced it for my AT hike with the silnylon version. I love GG’s stuff, and I hope this shelter works out for long hikes.

With the 1.5 oz required groundsheet (after my experience with the fabric, I’d never put it right on the ground), the total shelter weight is over 18 oz. The lighter silnylon tarptents are 24 oz, and I’ve never had to use a groundcloth with a silnylon floor. So for a 6 oz difference, I still think the silnylon is a better deal for its durability. I’m gladly carrying an extra 2 oz in the G-5 for the stronger silnylon. I easily had more than that in duct tape patches by the end of last season.
