Don’t live there but wish I did. Went to school there. Beautiful Mtn. town. If you live/school there enjoy it. Garden spot of the world!!!

Pickle from '04 and the first Little Tree of '04 are now married and live there. I don’t know if Pickle still keeps up with his TJ. They are planning a PCT hike this year.

Leslie, Boone, NC is a very nice place. The improvements to the University in the past 15 years have been phenomenal and has impacted the entire community. There are tons of nice restaurants and good shopping. Lots of quirky shops you’d expect in a bohemian university town. The Mast General Store there (and in close-by Valle Cruis) has a pretty good hiking supply section. From Boone, certainly the AT is accessible as it isn’t that far to Roan Mountain, or Hampton, TN or Damascus, VA. A great community for those who love the outdoors, hiking, biking, fishing and, of course, the winter sports like skiing.

I recently asked the same or similar question and got a number of responses. Look in the old records for this discussion. I was wanting to know if the trail was close enough to Boone to resupply. It isn’t for resupply. I graduated there in 1972. It was a small place then. Apparently it has changed a lot since I was there.
