Have any of you used the Garmin Legend GPS? How was it? Have you used the Garmin maps? Are they decent? Thanks

Yes the gps is nice. It is pretty accurate and it has a lot of the features a more expensive model has. If you are under tree cover it is off maybe 100 feet. Which for a gps is a lot but out in the open it is fine. I use mine with Arcview 3.2 a making maps for the local parks. Its a nice little set up. You have this tread under Appalachian trail I would not carry a gps on the AT that is just my opinion though. I would not get the map software personally if the gps fails which is has because of battery problems I would still like to have A USGS map with me so in my opinion I would not get the map software. Hope this helps if you want to see what you can do with a gps check this out.

Yes, I’ve been using the Legend for about four years now for hiking and sea kayaking. Before a weeklong paddle trip in the Apostle Islands I used the Garmin mapping software to waypoint all the campsites and put-ins. This saved the say when we made it from Rocky Island to Devil’s Island in the fog, with less than 100 feet visibility. By keeping the “needle” centered, the dock appeared out of the fog dead ahead.
When hiking I save my track for the day to keep track of my mileage, elevation gain, and waypoints that I then transfer to maps of my hike that I keep on my PC.
