GPS / GIS - Appalachian Trail

I have the GPS coordinates of all the shelters on the AT. These I have been able to transfer to my Magellan GPS receiver manually. (About 250 shelters)
The actual centerline trail (the AT itself) is given through the AT Conference Links as a GIS/SHP file. This consists of a zillion (actually 317,750 points along the way) coordinates.
With Magellan Mapsend or GPS TrackMaker, I haven’t been able to transfer this data to my GPS receiver.
Has anyone been able to load the AT centerline to their Magellan GPS?

I’m sure having a GPS is a personal decision. The trail is well marked so the centerline would be pointless and certainly not worth using your memory for.

I’m section hiking the Shenandoah National Park starting next week and have downloaded the park from my MapSource Cd so hopefully, I’ll have all the information I could possibly want to refer to.

I’ve also downloaded the shelters for Virginia, just to have them but I doubt I’ll need them.

The trail is so well marked and the data books and maps are so complete, a gps really isn’t needed. I’m taking it along more for my own reference and record keeping.

Have fun!

I thought I’d need it. I didn’t. Dead weight. sold it to my Dutch friend. the only time I got lost was in a neighborhood in New York, where I walked through 5 miles of suburbia. not worth carrying even 10 miles.
