I am a fan of the Appalachian pages that Rick Towle and David Miller put out the last few years. I talked to Rick and he isn’t updating it this year bur AWOL has his own version out. I understand Rick and David had a little falling out over price. I am sticking with last years Appalachian pages…
BTW Rick is nobo this year as attroll and hosts whiteblaze.net

I agree with bookhead. Hands down, it’s the thruhikers guide (handbook, whatever).
Nimblefoot
the thru hikers handbook is the best all around guide book for the AT thats out there
old school
Whatever happened to Wingfoots guide? I heard he “retired” but I thought someone took over from him.
Jalan
jalan i belive the thru hikers guidebook is wingfoots old project until he passed it on to another person.

The AT Guide is a great new guidebook by AWOL. The Companion is also another great choice.

www.theATguide.com has northbound and southbound versions. Many samples are on the website. If you can, go to an outfitter, and see the books side by side. “The A.T. Guide” has roughly 20 more town maps than the others, and has an incomparable elevation profile, that aligns with every landmark in the book.
Awol
Is this the same AWOL that wrote “AWOL on the AT”
I got it sometime in Janurary and have read it twice already. I will use it to help plan my long section this summer.

The Thru Hikers Handbook has a 2010 version in print. Wingfoot retired a few years back and the book is now being written by Bob “501” McCaw. You can find info at www.trailplace.com
