I have narrowed my packs down to two, but I need help. The Golite Gust or Trek. I would like to hear from some people who have these. Thanks again

I carried a Gust this past summer for 1500 miles and liked it moderately well. Some people I met carried it for a while but then traded it off for something slightly heavier but that carried more weight comfortably.
I think I liked it because I never had more than 30 pounds, including water and food and fuel in it. Anything over 25 pounds was downright uncomfortable so I can’t even imagine having more than 30 pounds in it. It was awesome for 10-20 pounds, which was what I often carried especially in summer.
The pack has a really large capacity (57L I think) which annoyed me because if you filled it full it would be tortourous to carry it all. Most of the time, I filled it about half-way and the rest was just dead weight. If you have a lot of bulky light stuff then it would be really good.
As for Go-Lite as a company, they have mixed reviews. My pack is still in decent shape after 1500 miles (especially considering I only payed $50.00 for it) but my umbrella is trashed. Some people claim Go-Lite is the shoddiest crap out there. To be honest, if the pack was any more than $50.00 I wouldn’t have bought it, there’s lots of better stuff out there in the 2-pound range.
Tell it like it is
I had great success with my Go Lite Trek pack from Damascus to Maine, once I learned to keep it under 30 lbs. Very comfortable. The company replaced it twice at no charge, once when the waist strap insertion tore, then at the end when the waterproof lining on the top compartment delaminated. They’re good people to deal with. I’ll be using it again next year for some long section hiking.

I used the breeze on the Appalachian TYrail and will be using it again on the PCT in the spring and would reccomend it to any Very lightweight hiker. I really wouldn’t buy much else from Golite now though. They have lost their emphasis and focus. If you stick with items from the “Ray Way” list they will be good products. Other stuff, not so well thought out or tested. Customer service used to be the bomb, but it is deteriorating as well. IMO
