Congratulations to the first of the thru-hikers that have made it to the half way point on the trail. To date there has been 20 to make it to the ATC in Harper Ferry. Make sure you take part in the half gallon challenge.

The store at Pine Grove Furnace just opened last weekend and so far has only limited stock. It is ONLY OPEN ON WEEKENDS until after Memorial Day. Green Mtn. Merchandise, several miles north along PA. 34 is a good alternative and is an excellent place for fresh subs.

Something tells me the store loves hikers paying for overpriced ice cream. Half gallon isn't really a challenge anyway.

The half-Gallon Challenge is a great tradition that is part of the A.T. adventure. It is always nice to have some mini-goal along to keep hikers entertained. This is simply something fun that keeps hikers entertained for days leading up to it, fun day eating ice cream, and a fun blog topic. Just plain fun. Absolutely worth wasting a couple of bucks!! :) Eat on!!

Pingrove furnace wasn't open when i came thru. i didn't stop at the A.T.C in Harpers ferry manly because it was to early the morning i went thru. currently i am resting at the church of the mountains hostel in D.W.G. RED-DOG:cheers :cheers
