Hammock on CT - The Colorado Trail

I’m leaving saturday to hike the CT from Breckenridge to Salidas. I’m still uncertain if it is advisable to take my hammock or should I take a tent? Will I have trouble finding trees in that section to tie off to? Also, is it likely that I will run into a stretch of rainy weather? Other than the afternoon thunder storms that is. Speaking of which, am I going to be in a thunder storm every day or is it an occasional thing? Sorry to ask so many questions but I have never hiked out west and am just a little excited.

You will be above timberline on the 10 mile range segment and between Searle and Kokomo Pass.

Monsoon has started and expect afternoon thunderstorms. Sometimes they extend into the night. I think it is easier to stay dry in a hammock.

Hammock is ideal for the part of the trail that you are hiking.

There is an Adventure Race in the Breckinridge area on the 21st and 22nd. Headquarters, I believe, is the Frisco Nordic Area.

You may want to hang around after your hike because rumor has it that the last eight Tour de France winners are competing in the Leadville 100 mountain bike race on August 8.

Thanks food, I feel a little better about my choice of tent now. The lightning has me nervous but I can handle that.
