Considering the Collegiate West route this summer. Has anyone travelled this route with a hammock? Would there be nights without trees?

If you plan it just a bit you should be fine.

I did it last summer with a hammock and had no problem.

There is a 18-mile stretch from a couple miles north of Cottonwood Pass going south to North Fork Chalk Creek that is above tree line, but about 8 miles from Cottonwood pass there is a small grove of scruffy trees with a couple of hammock options.

There are a few other places where the trail is above tree line for a few miles - pretty much anywhere above 11,500 - 12,000 feet.

I carry a piece of Tyvek just in case I need to go to the ground and use my rain fly as a shelter. Used it a couple of times in the southern part of the CT - OK for a night or two.
