How comfortable are hammocks?

Never having slept in one, I’m guessing your spine stays in a “U” while in use. I sleep on my side. How comfortable would I be?

Also, how do they stop rain from soaking you? Seems like it would run down the rope and into the hammock.

Finally, which brands work best?

Theres a post here for hammocks somewhere. I used a Hennessey Hammock on my thru hike last year and had good results. Your back tends to straighten a bit more than you might think, because you lay in the hammock at an angel. I too lay on my side and had to adjust to laying mostly on my back. My arm would fall asleep when laying on my side.As for the rain your right it does come down the cord and runs down to your butt and soaks you. In those situations you must be very careful as to how you have hooked the rain fly.
