Harpers Ferry to Waynesboro

I will hike the section from Harpers Ferry to Waynesboro in May. This will be my first experience with the SNP and Skyline Drive. What should I expect? Lots of road crossings? Restaurants at the road crossings?(should I carry less food?).

Where should I spend the night in Harpers Ferry?

Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated.

I Flip flopped in 2008 and hiked from Front Royal back to Damascus which was around May 17th so my first couple of weeks South were through the SNP, I had mixed weather even snow so don’t travel to light. Waysides were just opening up and I ate in both Big Meadows and Skyland, So you should be able to plan on a little less food Big Meadows has a camp store for limited resupply. Old Town Inn in Harpers is reasonable but you can always ask at the ATC for lodging advice, personnally I would hike out on day one to either the Blackburn Outdoor Centre or Bears Den they are both a great experience. Of course you will transit Skyline drive on a number of occasions as you travel South and run parallel to it but you hardly notice it to be honest the scenary sort of blanks it out.
Thinking of bringing my wife over from England to do this section next year.
