I planning short hike from Harpers Ferry and South ( 5-7 Days).

Since I live near Cleveland Ohio can take Amtrak Train to Harpers Ferry, how hard will it be to find a ride back from Royal Front VA ?

Velroc,

I live in Harpers Ferry and I am currently hiking the AT in the southern section of SNP whenever I get a free weekend.

When will you need a ride from Front Royal, VA to Harpers Ferry?

I will be hiking Old Rag Mountain with several friends on Saturday, Sept 29th so I will be passing through Front Royal that day.

Where will you be ending your hike on the AT? Please send answer to pythonathiker@yahoo.com.

I’ll try to help out a fellow hiker if I can.

Speaking of the amtrak station at Harpers Ferry is it safe to leave my car there for 2-3 days while hiking on the trail?

I believe you can park a car at the state park for up to two weeks. The ATC office can help you out with this, I’m sure.

In July I left my car at the Harpers Ferry NHP parking lot. No problems. They were very accomodating .
You can leave your vehicle there for up to 2 weeks. You just have to fill out a form for your vehicle that the gate attendant will give you. It is $6 fee.

I talked to both the AT HQ and National Park in Harpers Ferry. I can leave my car at the National Park for up to 2 weeks for the $6.00 entrance fee. I also was told the smartest this was to leave your car and get a ride to where ever your going to start from, Front Royal in my case, as then your not pinned to a time table of getting a ride.

BTW the Amtrak Train sound good, but it only stops once in Cleveland at 2 AM each day, its hard enough getting my wife to take care of my dogs and let me hike, much less drive me to Cleveland at 2 AM,

Good advice to get your shuttle at the start of your hike. Then you can hike back to your vehicle at your speed, and not have to maintain a deadlined schedule.
