Heat rash - Appalachian Trail

I keep getting heat rash on my ankles and feet. Anyone have experience dealing with, preventing and/or the best socks? I wear Asolo boots and light Smartwool socks - happens with or without gators. Thanks!

Try using a medicated powder. And take the footwear off ever other hr to let the parts dry. Hang the sox over a branch to dry whilst you snack, or what ever you do. Powder other pieces parts also.

Read Meadow Mary’s June 6, 2010 entry on the Pacific Crest Trail. She has something to say on the matter.

I too have had that problem in the summer. I find that washing my feet, drying carefully, then applying Bag Balm has helped. The rash doesn’t itch, but is rather unsightly to say the least. I also have used a generic “Gold Bond” type powder in my socks, too. I tried different types of socks, but it made no difference if synthetic or wool. I use Smartwool medium hikers all year round. Good Luck. :tongue

going to try a couple new suggestions this weekend when I hike - different one on each foot to save some time  Thanks to all for the posts!
