Woo! and a big fat HOO!
I just had my first experience at REI and walked away about $550 poorer than I went in there.
With that said, I bought a lot of stuff and now have all my MAJOR things that I need to hike, or so I think
BW–I bought a Mountain Hardwear Galaxy sleeping bag–20* down, and a thermarest LE 3/4.
Also, THE STOVE IS BOUGHT  I’m going to try it tonight. I’m not sure if I should wait and surprise you in March, but I bet it sings good harmony–though i’m told it sings quietly  That’s all the major stuff I bought  Just thought I’d share. Oh yeah, I’m now a part owner of REI  Can’t wait for my money back next year! My salesman was a '98 thruhiker! How much luckier could I be??

There’s no looking back, go to the light! Next you have to get the REI credit card and get bonus bucks. You were lucky to get a hiker to wait on you. Most times we got we’re the knowledgable ones. “Duh, I don’t know, its a boot…thingy”. “I guess you could hike in them, I don’t know, I don’t hike, it sucks”.

His real name was Scott, I didn’t ask his trail name(I was too in awe with the playground that awaited me.). Tall, skinny, dark hair(I Know that helps a lot  )

They have a CREDIT CARD??? Ohhhhh…I’m in trouble.

Its okay, you have tha feva. Take two hikes and logon to the chat. Next you’ll be buying titanium tent stakes and cutting the straps off your pack…WITH IT FULL!

I used the 3/4 LE all the way. It was great. Patched twice in the field no problem. Remember to carry you repair kit. I am still using it.

Also makes a great raft in Maine for those tasty lakes. Pool side.

I’m surprised a former thru-hiker sold you a down sleeping bag. You should really use a synthetic bag with polar guard or somthing comperable. The synthetic bags stay warm when they get wet and you should expect to get wet. Synthetic also dries a lot faster. I used The North Face Cats Meow 20 degree bag for the start then switched to a Ferrino HLMicro 40 degree bag for the summer. We had a very dry summer in 2002 and I hope the 2003 season won’t have too much rain.

That Polargard bag I have is now a dog bed. We’re down with the down. Don’t get it wet. We hiked for weeks in the rain and never got a drip on anything. I think the good pack cover helped.
