Imagine, driving from New Orleans,LA to north Georgia to avoid trouble with the hurricane. You check into a hotel in Helen,GA and then get hit by a tornado. What are the odds of that?

The article didn’t say where they were going next, but wherever they go, be on the look out.

NO kidding, run away if you see that couple coming to a town near you. Then again, I live in Detroit, a Katrina type hurricane would do about $26B in improvements here, though a mere tornado only whips the trash around in circles a little.

-xtn, happy to be on the 7th floor and directly across the hall from the buildings internal stairwell, just in case

May (insert diety here) bless all those who are dealing with loss from that storm.

DEtroit City!!! No wonder you love to get out and hike. It is too bad Katrina didn’t visit you, a little city improvement wouldn’t hurt. I will say your Detroit public school administrators are doing the best they can, with what they have. However, that school system is in bad shape.

That’s the trade-off for all those Bush tax-cuts.

Airferret is completely right. I just about died laughing about the 26 billion in improvements…

My suburb borders Detroit and it’s terrible. I’ve lived in and around Detroit my whole life.

Paul: Don’t blame Detroit’s school system on the Bush tax cuts. The schools have been that way for 40 years; I know first-hand. Not to start a political flamewar or anything, but Democrats have been in charge of the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan for the largest part of those 40 years.

Hey im in Philly and we are quickly headed to #1 worst city status… our Mayor for years has said publicly “we run the place now, we be in charge”

i guess “they” take all the blame

Take off…you guys in Philly have no chance against Detroit. There is NO WAY you can take out Detroit as the worst city. We will use any means necessary to retain this prized status.

Hey, isn’t this forum supposed to be about hiking?

Hey I live in Philly and I’d give Detroit the edge… maybe … it all depends where you live. I’ve been to parts of Philly where trash is knee deep, while other parts, like where I live, have direct access to Fairmount Park --> The LARGEST park within any major city limits in the USA! Miles and miles of trails! I’m out there almost every day! But then again, we do have a mayor who …well … forget that, lets get back to talking about hiking.:cheers

Hurricane Hugo went through in 1989. I know a guy who evacuated his house in Charleston (SC) to go to his house in Charlotte. Hugo destroyed his house in Charleston and then went 200 miles inland and destroyed his house in Charlotte too. (At least I’ve moved the topic back south nearer Helen.)
