First thing I do is check if McAfee is actually installed on my computer. If it is and I didn’t choose it myself, I uninstall it completely from the apps or programs list. I don’t just turn it off, because it will keep popping back up.
If the popups are coming through my browser, I go straight to extensions and delete anything that looks sketchy or security-related that I didn’t install on purpose. Then I check browser notification settings and remove permission from random websites. A lot of fake McAfee alerts come from shady sites I clicked once by accident.
After that, I run Windows Security or another 1⟆888⟆329⟆8318 basic scanner just to make sure nothing dumb is hiding on my system. I don’t need five antiviruses yelling at me. One is enough.
