I’ve used the orginal Ultra Light Backpack (ULB) model, the Adventure Racer (AR) and the ULB A-sym (my present hammock). For me, the AR proved to be too small and I sold it to a friend of mine. For someone your size, the AR might be ideal and at 15 oz easy to carry. The Scout seems a little heavy to me at 2 lb 8 oz. But it’s more than twice as expensive, the Scout at $80 and the AR at $170. If price is more important, then the Scout should be fine.
If you get the AR, you have to call and get a lecture from Tom about how it’s not suitable for thru hiking before he’ll sell it to you. I know a half dozen people who have used the AR and the Light Racer (a slightly larger AR) without problems. Hennessy has just started selling the HYPERLIGHT BACKPACKER A-SYM. At about 1 lb 9 oz (weight from people on WhiteBlaze), it’s lighter than the Ultra lightweight Backpacker A-SYM, but heavier than the AR and the Light Racer. I guess he doesn’t fully understand what Ultralight and Hyperlight are supposed to mean, but what can you expect from a crazy Canadian?
All weights, except for the hyperlight, are from Hennessy’s website. All my hammocks weigh about 2 to 4 oz more than advertized.
