i have a friend who is a ranger for Sequoia NF. she says that as of right now, the snow levels in the Sierra Nevada are higher than they have been at any time in the last 4 years. we still have the possibility of more snow, there have been a few big storms in the last week or two. just hailed on us today here in SoCal. the Cascades are allegedly at 125% of normal snowpack. i hope this bodes well for a break in our drought.
best of luck to all you thrus, i’m looking forward to following your adventures. i have to wait until 2009 or so. :bawling

I’m out of state right now, but will be home tomorrow and can give you a direct link to California’s website that reports snow levels. Last that I saw was that most stations were reporting an above average year. However, a lot will depend on how the rest of this month shapes out.
Will get you that link here tomorrow night.

Here is the site. However, I don’t know which areas are closest or directly on the PCT. Some of the past hikers would have a better idea.

Another good place to look is some of the ski resort sites – www.mammothmountain.com has daily snowfall reports, and also a big chart that compares this years snowfall to previous years. I assume that some of the big Tahoe resorts have similar info on their websites.
For sake of comparison, there’s already more snow on Mammoth Mountain (over 400") than the full-year totals for any season since 1997-1998. Unless the weather really slows down a lot, it’s going to be a snowy year out there.
