The AT crosses highway 64 at the highest point, a bit more than ten miles west of Franklin, NC. There is a parking area. As you’re driving along, there are long, long upgrades from either direction. As you get to the top, there is an AT sign. The parking area is on the south side of the highway.

If you start downhill again, you’ve missed it.

That’s right, the AT parking lot is between Franklin and Hayesville, NC. If you drive from west to east toward Franklin, it’s on the right. And there is good water there from a pipe. I believe folks sometimes leave cars there overnight - certainly they park there all day long.

I’ve parked overnight there, and I often see other cars.
