Hike from NOC to Davenport

I was planning on resuming my section hike at the end of Sept. from NOC to Davenport Gap. I have an unexpected gap in my work schedule where I now have the opportunity to hike this section the last week in August-first week in Sept. Too hot in August? How about travel during this period? Are all the kids back in school in that area the last week in August? Any advice appreciated. Probably good hike lighter with less equipment (bag, clothes).

Great time of year for a hike. Labor Day weekend may be crowded, but good for a yogi or two. The kids are in school in NC by then, ours start back the 2nd week in Aug to get out by June, cause they close in winter even with only a threat of snow flurries. Water sources may be light in a few locations in the smokies, but the hike inn at near fontana dam should be one place to stop along the way, and there is a restroom at the parking lot in Newfound Gap mid way thru the smokies.
