being in the hiker culture is like being in a soldier without having a seargent telling you what to do. another soldier has experienced the same hardships as you have. you both know about hiking in the rain, and being cold out in the weather. again its experiences that you both have shared and, its a i’ve been there too, a sort of secret knowing about the joys as well as the hardships of hiking a long way…

Dude? Are you serious? That’s the worst comparison I have ever heard. There is no comparison between thru hiking and being " stuck in the suck"… of war… Nice try maybe next time… OH, and when was the last time you were “in a soldier”?

Ha, I have not heard “stuck in the suck” for years…Makes me laugh…Semper Fi , Mo Fo

Yes, that was a bad comparision. I laugh at the ultralight conversations I hear some times. I never tell them because they would not understand but sometimes…"Yey, I am going ultra light, left the 50 calibier base and ammo at home this trip but I still brought some claymores for the bears!..Ha

I believe Cutty is refering to the “Band of Brothers” aspect of hiking. Everyone watches out for each other, most of us anyway, and I don’t recall anyone yelling at me to hike faster or that I set up my tent wrong. But I do recall ripping a Scout Master for leaving a kid behind with an injury.

Maybe not the best comparison, but that’s what he has, so give him a break for trying to make a statement.
