Bring up the old forums - lots of info there and suggestions on books that have helped others - also reading current and former hikers journals is valuable, to me at least, in learning what works and what doesn’t. Enjoy, planning seems to be half the fun.

That’s a mighty big question. For planning/ Do you want to hike North or hike South. There are advantages and disadantages to both. Do a search on this or other forums to read about it.

Think about your food resupply. About 3 weeks ago there was a discussion on this board about maildrops v grocery stores.

What to bring… Take only the stuff that you actually use when on your overnights. There is a lot of talk on these forums on saving as much weight as possible. The three big things that take up weight are your pack, shelter, and sleeping bag. Just keep in mind if you are looking to purchase new ones to try to get everything as light as you can afford.

Get the ATC Data Book to aid in yourplanning and resupplying.

Ask away on this site. Look at people’s gear lists. Check out whiteblaze.net for more forums.
