Looking for opinions on hiking kilts. Like or dislike? What brands are good? Commando or not? Is it appropriate for thru hikes?

I will probably never hike in anything else. Kilts are great and highly fashionable. It’s like your own portable dressing room. You can go to the bathroom easier than anyone else. I got mine from sportkilt.com, they are expensive but it was a gift so I didn’t mind. If you order the female ones they are cheaper (and a little shorter )for some reason so I would recommend that. I started hiking with mine halfway through a thru hike. Commando is the only way to go. I really dont think brands matter but I think there is a shortage of options in that category. Sportkilt.com will charge you for every add-on you make like pockets. If I didnt already have one I would probably just have someone make one for me though.Hope that helped!

In my experience they are very comfortable but it is easy to get the mother of all cases of chafe on the old ball sack. Suggest applying vasaline each morning and as needed.

vasaline?? That seems like it would make the gibblets a little tacky. Body Glide is your best friend for the undercarriage chaffing issue. It also is great for your feat. After a month or two I didn’t have to worry about chaffing anymore. Vasaline just sounds gross.
