Keep in mind that the GMC asks hikers to stay off of the LT until sometime in May, when the snow has all melted and the ground begun to dry. Going on the trail when it is still soft from snowmelt increases erosion and damage to the trail, also leads to a lot of trail widening when hikers try to go around the muddy spots. June is black fly season in Vermont, count yourself warned! These bugs are nasty!
You will probably meet people on the trail who are going your pace. So even if you don’t find someone before you head out, you stand a good chance of meeting someone out there.
