OK, bought the plane tix for a flight to Denver. Looks like I arrive in mid-morning at DIA. I may hike as far as Salida or Buena Vista in the time I have. From what I saw on the web, getting from either city back to Denver is somewhat easy as buses go from each to Denver. Anybody utilize the buses from either to get to Denver ?

If it were me, I’d call the Leadville Hostel: http://www.leadvillehostel.com/

If you spend a night there, they will give transportation all the way down to Salida. There is a charge, but it’s reasonable.

There is a free bus from Leadville to Breckenridge that leaves early in the morning. From there, it’s easy to get to DIA.

I would call any bus services you are planning to use. There have been some routes disappear in the past year.

Enjoy your hike

LOL the charge to Salida would be a dollar per mile, round trip. at least thats what Bill (owner of hostel) quoted me this summer. that’s about 100 bucks for Salida. Dont get me wrong, it’s a well run hostel, but you’d be better off hitching that route

Secondly, the bus is not free from leadville to breck. Summit stage operates it as a commuter bus for a 5 dollar fare.

As far as transportation goes from BV/Salida to Denver, use this line

They’ll take you downtown, and from there hope on a skyride bus to the airport

The Black Hills Stage Lines service looks like a feasible exit method to Denver, provided I get to Salida. I will plan other exit points further east as the case may present itself.
