Just wanted to let everyone who hiked w/ Hippy Trails in 2004 that he passed away in June, 2007. He had an enlarged heart and died in his sleep. I lost touch with him after he left Erwin but he told me the funniest story about a hitch with a guy with one leg and a baseball bat he used to help drive the car. It was so funny! I am sorry for your loss of such a young son. Take care of yourself.

Dear Sandi,
Please accept my condolences regarding the passing of your son. I did not know him, but I do know that there is nothing more difficult than the passing of a child. I am glad that he got to adventure along the Appalachian Trail, a rare thing for anyone, and something that seems to have been so perfectly right for him. My belief is that during that time he lived life to the fullest–and perhaps that was true as well of his entire life. God bless you and your son both–forever.
