Hey everyone,
i was just how easy of a hitch off of East Flagstaff Road was. Its the first road north of the Bigelows. Seems like a low traffic area. any insights will be appreciated.

My memory is that East Flagstaff is a dirt road that connects to no other road North of where it crosses the AT. I think you’d be better off hitching on Rt. 4, Rt. 27 (near Stratton) or waiting until Caratunk.

Of course, if you are lucky enough to see a car on East Flagstaff you probably have a good shot at a ride.

Some of the small roads near Andover were easy hitches when I went through because the hostel owners seemed to watch for hikers - but I don’t know of anything like that at East Flagstaff.

Hopefully someone with more up to date info will clarify.

Especially if it’s a weekday.

I travel this area frequently, as I maintain the Safford Notch campsite. East Flagstaff Rd is off Bog Brook Rd which is off Long Falls Dam Rd. That’s a paved road (near the 2000 mile marker) and would see some traffic, it would be worth walking out to there for a hitch into North New Portland.

Pedxing is right however, if you do see a car, they would be traveling slower and chances would be maybe higher they would stop as there’s really just one way in and out.

Is this for a resupply option? It’s 20 some miles into North New Portland to Morton’s Store, which would get you by, but this really isn’t a viable r/s stop, if that’s your goal. There is a small store maybe 12 miles from the trail on the way in Long Falls Dam Rd, I don’t list it in the Companion (I also field edit this section) for the above hitching reasons. And I’m not sure of their hours.
