Disclaimer; I do not pretend to know anything about computers, or “Web design”.
Having said that, why is the “Trail Journals” Home Page consist of the same people all the time? It seems there are many people who post their Pics in the T.J. that some of them could be used with a slight sidebar.
Hey Thanks for the feedback -Heres to the class of 2005!!!

Everyone has said the same thing, these guys do not want to improve this site. Its a good site anyway, Great for Journalist and hiker’s to stay in contact with home. You can suggest ideas, but they will not all ways answer you, This could be the premier Hike site anywhere, but they do not have the time, resources, or the total commitment it would take.

You have no insight into the owners of this site to warrant baseless (sounded better than stupid) like the one you state. Make your suggestions and deal with it if they are not acted on. If you don’t like it you can move on. Just my take on it. Obviously, I think your comments are unfair.

And how much to most people pay to be here ?? $0.00

And how much bandwidth and storage (1000’s of photos alone !! ) is used ??

How many pop ups banners and other revenue garnering things assault you on this website ?? 0

How much have you donated to help offset the costs of said bandwidth and space needed to keep up this site ?? (yes, I have, though admittingly it has been awhile and only the little I could afford)

I am sure constructive ideas are appreciated, but please respect that this is a free site that doesn’t generate money to the owners, so it is relaly up to them how to do things.

My thoughts,

We would all like to see a few new pics and posts but it takes a lot of time to run a site and I believe that the “guys” have other interest and lives to live. If you watch closely you will see that few new photos have popped up lately. (However, that one with the little Bluebearee girls is still there, yuck!!! LOL):girl

lief and zip have actually added pics and many more journal clips to the front page. like a couple have said, they do most of what they do out of love for hiking and the good people who hike, not cause they devote every waking moment to marketing folks into buying something they don’t need.

now whiteblaze site changes pics everytime you referesh the site, but some of their randonmized pics are undisclosed locations and more or less seeking to instill in us the same message. people love hiking. just cause their site changes every boot up, doesn’t mean it is better, just something you like.

I personally have enjoyed the journals and pics that i find at TJ, cause i feel like i get to know folks better thru their writing. I also get more than just rants about BS and politics when i am on any individual journal. Then i can take a spin thru their pics if I want.

You may find that since there is no real marketing going on here, it is really a better place. It sure isn’t rei, campmore, or even the ATC. this one is just a way for folks to keep in touch with loved ones and to share what their hiking experience is like.

i’ve found i like less and less of the web, and more and more of the outdoors, so this site is just a way i can touch base, and that upwardly moble base camp of hikers.

you could search for favorite journalist on the forum and find that, more than likely, the folks who have their photo on the front page also get high reguards from readers as well.

so it’s no biggie that you suggested minor changes and it’s a no brainer if they keep it like it is. i kinda hope they have better things to do than just keep this webpage fresh. besides, like i said, i get daily changes from thruhiker to thruhiker, as well as updated pics, if i care to search a min. every once in a while you might just find that diomond in the ruff thru exploration.

any hoo, have fun, keep suggesting, just remember most thruhikers can out hike the squeaky wheel.

I find it hard to think of a better hiking site than trailjournals.com.

It is a very well designed site, geared towards functionality and content.

It is the voice of people who are DOING IT, not lazing around speculating. Plus, I like the design (although I did like the old banner that had the day and night go by).

Island Mama is wearing her trailjournals t-shirt this morning… I’ll have to go now…

I have my own TJ t-shirt on right now. I’d love to support more, but my budget is a wee tight.

First of all thanks for reminding me about how great this site is. I come here all the time and sometimes don’t even notice that there arent adverts, pop ups, and the site is almost always up.

In fact, now that I’m thinking about it, I should probably dontate something to the site. I’ll have a look see to see what that entails.

It seesm that the pics have been rotating a bit more lately and I am very happy with this sites. There Are some pictures that I’d like to see less of just because I’ve seen them a million times.

One last thing: I hope the community on this site isnt so up tight that a little criticism isnt blown all out of proportion. I would agree with the first post, but some of the subsequent posts pointed out the good points. I just wish they didnt have to be so harsh.:cheers

Hey thanks for everyones imput, I too could donate some moneys for this great site, and I too think that some people are (or sound) quite HARSH, but I sometimes sound harsh without meaning it too. We all should be so lucky to use this web site without a bunch of pop-up, banner, bullshoot
THANK YOU GUYS!
GREAT JOB!
AND A BIG WET MESSY KISS TO ALL THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED!

Roses to Tha Wookie and others who recognize the value of this wonderful site. It literally changed my life…I followed hikers, copied gear, made preparations, exchanged ideas, made friends and even got a few laughs. I discovered LDH & backpacking here and now hiking trails is all I want to do for the rest of my life.

That it has flourished on “the honor system” really says something. How about this…everyone who finds value here should make theirself feel good by supporting it with an annual donation. Give based on what you get out of it and what you can afford. If you need a figure look at some other organizations’ annual dues.

These are two of the finest young men I have come to know and they have yet to find a way to profit personnaly from it. I hope they don’t get pissed at me for suggesting this, but as the holiday season approaches, one might consider a personal gift to Leif and ZipDrive separate from the site support.

It is very easy to donate to the site w/o feeling any pain or financial shortage. Get online with your bank or paypal or another online bill pay. Set up to donate $5, 10, 15… every month. It will automatically go to the guys for the site and you really won’t miss a few bucks. If a few hikers did this it could add up. Just my 2 cents worth. Sue/HH PS: There are new pics up.:girl
