Hope Pass - The Colorado Trail

Any idea how many additional miles vs. standard route?

Is it possible to go around the west side of the reservoir and pick up the alternate route from there? It looks like hwy 82 gets within about a mile of the alternate on that side. If possible, it might save a couple miles vs. going around the east side.

Halfmoon to Clear Creek Road is 22.6 miles. Then you have to walk down the road about 7 miles to pick up the trail again by the reservoir. Hope Pass is a nice hike.

The real question is whether it is possible to get from Hwy 82 around the west end of the Twin Lakes reservoir to the CDT/CT alternate Hope Pass route? In satellite images of the area it looks like there is a path through the marsh area at the upper end of the reservoir, but is it private property or for other reasons not possible to get through?

I’d check out the missiouri gulch as well if u end up doing hope pass. Its a great hike as well and doesnt add too many miles if youre doing a SOBO hike
