I am thinking of opening a hiker hostel in Bennington VT and I am interested in some feed back. It would be about 10 beds a shower, toilet, high speed internet access and located directly above a popular local restaurant in downtown Bennington. I thought 10$ for a bed, shower and inrenet access on a first come first serve basis. Possibly include a “hiker special” meal and a beer for 10$ more. What do you think?? Thanks and good travels!

I think I remember Bennington as the place with the silent retreat and the crappy outfitter who catered to people with more money thaqn hikers normally had. Other than that, it was a pretty good town. How close would you be to the trail.Sounds good to me. I would stop there.

Great idea Fajitacook!!!

Bennington is a great spot, with great people. This town is a lot less expensive than Manchester, VT and much more down to earth.

Virginian, could you have been thinking of Manchester’s outfitters? If I remeber correctly, The outfitter in Bennington is mostly soft goods yes, but VERY COOL PEOPLE.

Fajitacook, :cheers

I remeber the REI in Manchester. It was in the same shopping mall as the movie theater. But I thought the outfitter in Bennington was way out on the edge of town. But Im old and could be wrong. I will have to look at my book.

I ate at a great micro brew there last oct. Does anyone know the name of it? It was on the main drag. The best beer I’ve ever downed. It was called something like “swamp water”.

Non-smoking rooms? With our allergies we can’t even go in places with a hint of fumar. Sounds like a blast, tho. I can brew the beer if the law will allow. I make a killer Tail Dragger Stout. Don’t forget the nacho hats to go with. :cheers

Great idea. Bennington’s not far from the trail. Most thru-hikers stopping off in that area go to Manchester Center which is a nice place but accomodation is expensive.

I think you would do very well, I would like to stay there one day… good luck
