Hot Springs in tie for Best Mountain Town

Hot Springs, NC is a dead heat (slightly ahead at the moment but the small gap is shrinking) for the Best Small Mountain Town in Blue Ridge Outdoor's contest. Some other A.T. towns are on the list, including Damascus, but none has even a third the votes.

You can vote once a day today and tomorrow. The winning town gets featured in the November issue of Blue Ridge Outdoors.

If you vote for Hot Springs, it will provide some excellent, free publicity for this important town along the A.T.

Here’s the link to vote: www.blueridgeoutdoors.com/contests/best-mountain-towns/

Laurie, you must think about the numbers. How many AT hikers make it to Hot Springs, NC and how many make it to Hanover, NH? The odds are not balanced, that is like comparing what is the most photographed view on the AT. Well the closer to the starting point, like that old beaten up tree by the GA/TN border would be highly photograph, but doesn't compare in numbers to the Springer Mountain Map sign. I think it is fun to see what people think about the small towns, but some haven't been to all of them to compare. So numbers don't make it the best. But if I have a vote, put me down for Hanover. :cheers

I have hiked from Springer to Harper's Ferry in three section hikes. Hot Springs wins so far. Here is why, the hot springs, quality ale and beautiful women at Rock Bottom, and very friendly locals. So if Hanover NH is even better I am motivated to get there.

Sounds like this voting is padded towards Hot Springs. So just do the write up on that town.

I haven't look into it, but based on the OP's message it seems like the AT's beloved Hot Springs just happens to be among the list of candidates that includes many small mountain towns throughout the region. By region, based on who's sponsoring the contest, I guess we're talking about rural Appalachia primarily. It seems like this has nothing to do with the AT other than we happen to have a couple of dogs in the hunt and one of them (Hot Springs) is the only one poised to possibly win.

Hot Springs, I love hot springs. They are so great. I love Umpqua, and Rainbow, and Cougar, and Iva Bell (Fish Creek), Diablo, and Reds Meadow, and Travertine, and Mono, Thermoolis, Breitenbush, Bagby, Olympic, Sol Duc, and so many more that I have a hard time remembering them all. So many great stories.

You know what’s great about Hot Springs NC? NOTHING? just another dumpy NC hick town. some nice people there but WTF don’t call it hot springs if I gotta go to some resort and sit in a plastic tub.
