This maybe old news, but does anyone know if the Paddler's Pub is out of business or not?...Thanks

Sorry to have to tell you that the pub is not only closed but the building is torn down. So no similar business can be expected. Don't know the back story but would like to hear it.

The owner died in a single car crash. However, there are plenty of places in town to grab a cold beer. One spot right across from the outfitter.

The old hotel across from where the pub was located is "The Iron Horse Inn." They have a bar, restaurant, and coffee shop. Sunrise from GAME '02 runs the wine and coffee shop.

That is sad news. Paddlers Pub was one of the few places that was actually on the trail and hikers could stop and get something to eat and drink. I'm guessing Mountain Crossing could be counted as a place on the trail to get something to eat and drink. A few places in Damascus, but not really on the trail. Other places on the trail to get something to eat and drink? Wonder why the building was torn down?

I grabbed this note (below) dated May '09 from Bob M., when I searched Paddler's Pub torn down, Hot Springs thanks Bob.
My best guess is: replacing that building is better than re-modeling. Hot Springs will always take care of hikers. B.Y.

Changes in Hot Springs, NC
Greetings from Hot Springs!
As you may know, the owner of Paddlers’ Pub was killed in a car accident last fall. The Paddlers’ Pub has closed (in fact, the building has been razed), but there are two new eating/lodging options in town:
The Rock Bottom Sports Grill and Inn has opened in the former site of the Bridge Street Inn. Rooms are $50 for hikers, and hikers get a 10% discount on food (not alcohol, per state law). Entrees are $10-19, and sandwiches run $4-11. Open 7 days, 11-10, with bar menu available until 12.
The Iron Horse Station is in the site of the former Brightleaf Junction Hotel. Rooms carry a hiker rate of $50 in March and April. Regular rates are $80-150. The restaurant serves meals from about $8-22, with a blue plate special every day for about $10.
A new restaurant/bar named Scooter’s is planned on the former site of Paddlers’ Pub. Judging from appearances, it will be several months before it opens, but I think you can count on it for next year.

I highly recommend the Smoky Mountain Diner, on your left as you enter town from the south.I had both dinner and breakfast there and there's pegs at the door for hanging your pack. It's across the street from Elmer's Sunnybank Inn.

My girlfriend and i checked out the Rock Bottom Pub while we were in Hot Springs a couple of months ago. Great place with all the hospitality of Paddlers. Which makes sense. The owners of the RBP were extremely close with the owner of the PPub. The name Rock Bottom comes from the fact that they opened the place when Hot Springs was getting hit the hardest from the economy down turn. They said the town had hit "rock Bottom" and they took the chance of trying to revive the life of the main road through town. Check this place out on your stroll thru. Good brew selection too.
When the PP was bought, the new owner had all intention of bringing it back to lofe and running it as was. But as BY said the building was so out of code it was easier to re build. once the building was torn down with plans to rebuild and reopen the owner (from what i remember from the story) couldn’t afford to rebuild immediately. Glad to hear that a new place is going in Always good to support these trailtowns’ economies :cheers
