my son birdstar is hiking the a.t. and will be in bear mountain new york wed. or thur. (aug 8-9) i am planning to go down to see him. does anyone know of a nice inexpensive hotel to stay at near that area?

I visited my daughter in Virginia while she was thru-hiking the AT. I stayed with her at a hostel in Pearisburg. Although I was unable to “hike” with her, I was able to see (and feel and smell) what she was going through and meet some of the hikers on the trail. I met her several other times during the 10 days and was able to leave “Trail Magic” and transport some hikers to town. It was awesome!!! There is a hostel near Great Barrington at East Mountain Retreat Center. The EMRT is a Buddhist retreat center. It has a couple of rooms for hikers, with a hot shower, washer and dryer. Take your sleeping bag and experience what you can.
