How many divide trail hikers

Found a hiker in Steamboat springs today, he said that there are only 10 people or so hiking the divide north. Is that so? Said it was a southbound year and like 30-40 are coming south.
If you are out there, say so!
I found another one a few weeks ago and he was skipping around to avoid the snow…
maybe I’ll check this years journals.

There are a lot of hikers out there this year, but few are purely northbound. The majority of the northbound flipped because of the extremely high snowpack in Colorado, so even the northbound are now southbound. However, Hans Solo is about 2 weeks from finishing his northbound hike. In the journals, there are a few who are still heading north - Doug Walsh and his partner and Pony Express are all straight northbounders. Some who started north haven’t updated in over a month, so they may not even be on the trail any more. There are a lot of hikers who have been mentioned in passing in the journals, but there is no way of knowing where they are now unless they show up again.

For Southbound thru hikers I’m aware of, Mike is likely near Macks Inn, Al is near Lima, Paul and Amit are a couple days past Leadore, Huckleberry and Burtha should be near Leadore, and then there is Brian and Lisa, Zack and Buddha, Mark, Tommy and Razzu, Nomad (and Gandalf?), Leslie and the two Daves, d-low in roughly that order and I’m sure a few others. Apparently Rusted Root and Suge are now off the trail.

Met a Bill hiking from Rawlins to Mexico last weekend. Lots of snow in Mt. Zirkel Wilderness!

Check out the snow at Buffalo Pass:

Hi guys, just thought I would let you know out of interest, Squeaky is South Bound on the CDT and was in Chama on Tuesday 27th Sept, he is hoping to be down and finished by the 11th October and then flying up too Boston or New York to head for the AT to try and complete his Triple Crown this year, he already finished the PCT Northbound in 81 days and 8 1/2 hrs.

Not to say it can’t be done but it’s over 700 miles! You do the math.

Mileage depends on the route Squeaky is following. So far Squeaky has been following Jonathan’s maps and the distance on those is about 620 miles between Chama and Antelope Wells (I think). I had projected Squeaky to hit Chama a day earlier but know there was bad weather in the San Juan’s just before Chama which probably slowed him down slightly. Assuming he ended up 15 miles past Chama on the 27th that would mean 43 mile days for the 14 days remaining. He has proven he can do this back to back on easier trail. Still I’m projecting he finish on Wednesday instead of Tuesday with 40 mile days because the last part of the Gila is reportedly tough going. This assumes he keeps following the Jonathan route.

Spoke to Squeaky on Monday 3rd of October and he has 380-420 miles left to do. The last few of his days he has been doing 45 miles per day. He is determined to get to the AT by 13th or 14th October. He was stuck in a town after re-supplying and could not get a lift out which put him as Craigl said a day behind. Matthew he sure he will be down and on the AT very soon, and I know my son and his determination is out of this world. He sounds in fantastic health after doing nearly 2 trails back to back and as he says in his own words, " The impossible does not seem impossible now". As long as Squeaky knees and health holds out you can join us all, his family on Springer Mountain to celebrate.

I gave Squeaky a lift from the town of Lake City back to Spring Creek Pass on 9/21 at about noon. He had left the trail and gone to town for supplies and had wait quite a while to get a ride back up to the trail. I shot some video as he tagged up on the east side of the road and then headed on his way toward the southwest. I was extremely impressed by his determination and hope he makes it. He has weathered a lot and although slim looked very healthy.
