How many hikers in "04"

imported

Hi to All,

Are the numbers in yet for the 2004 hikers. How many started a nobo and sobo hike of the AT. How many finshed. I herd it was going to be a good year not much rain like in “03” and not too hot of a summer. If any knows it would be GREAT to hear.
68 more days till Lighting and I start. The days are going by fast. GOOD luck to all in “05” WE will all do it!!!

Sorry I just gotta clarify Buzz, with something you said. 2003 wasn’t anywhere close to being a light rain year or a “good” weather year. It was one of the wettest spring and summers ever on the east coast. It felt like every town I walked into the local folks who say that it was some kind of record. 04 certainly had its bad patterns, as any year does, but I can assure you it was nothign like 03’.

I hope 05 is a sunny and cool one for all of you:)

oh yeah, and to actually answer your question, you’d be best checking out ATC’s site which I think is appalachiantrail.org They usually have some stats up there and I believe they continue to get updated. I’m sure there is still an 04 hiker or two out there

I think you misread his post. I think he’s saying that there was not much rain, like in 2003 (where there WAS alot of rain).

660 at Harpers Ferry but only 337 at Katahdin? I would have thought more than 50% would have finished after Harpers Ferry.

The 337 number is that of hikers who have reported to the ATC as finishing a nobo through hike in 2004. The numbers collected by the Rangers at Baxter, and by Steve Longley at the Kennebec river crossing are always higher. The Ferryman reported 488 GAMErs this season, almost exactly the same number that was recorded at Baxter.

That ATC, they don’t know anything.

I am The One True Thru Hiker and I am master of all information. There were 437.96758 thru hikers last year. So there. Na-nee na-nee boo-boo.

The 488 number would include flip-floppers more than likely.

“The 488 number would include flip-floppers more than likely”

For a detailed breakdown of the numbers recorded by Steve the Ferryman at the Kennebec, including flip-floppers, see his website at:
