I want to hike the AT this spring --all the way.
How much do I need to save?
I have some of my gear (clothing, shoes and pack) already but still need:
light tent
camp stove and cook set
light sleeping bag
some misc gear…like gaiters,maps,etc…
need to get to Georgia (from nova scotia!!!) I think about 400 to fly one way…
get to the trail…
make and mail food…
money for resupply, days in town…
beer. wine. beer. wine.
mmmmmmmm…
_lala_ 5 grand should be fine. People have done it on far less and people have spent far more. If I was planning another thru hike I would want around 4 to 5 thousand in the bank.
_youngNdum_ Well I spent about 1,400 dollars on gear, and I give my self about 1 dollar a mile. @2,200+1,400=@$3,600 plus unexpected expenses put you at about 5,000. it takes money, I want to come in way under budget so that I can turn around and walk back home!!
