How to get back home from Vermont

Folks, I'm starting my section hike this year in Dalton Mass, and based on my snail pace will end up somewhere in lower Vermont, about 100-150 miles later. I'm looking thru the new thru hikers handbook, but not seeing much in the way of transportation options. Any ideas or input, as always is appreciated!

Thanks!

A few years ago I hit public trans along rt 7. Big towns are Bennington,Manchester and Rutland. From there you can go anywhere. I think it was marblevalley bus service? Contact chamber of commerce in one of those places, they'll be happy to help.

If you make it 100 miles into Vermont - just shy of Maine juction, you can get a pretty easy hitch to Rutland where there is good bus service out of Vermont. There is also local transit to Rutlad which will stop at the Long Trail Inn (Nice hiker discount there) once a day.

Hitching is really easy 50 miles south of Rt. at Rts 11/30 - especiallly into Manchester, but I’m not sure of good buses out of Manchester.

In between is Rt. 140 - hitching doesn’t look too bad there, either.

There is Amtrak service out of Rutland, VT. The Ethan Allen Express runs between Rutland and NYC. If you make it to White River Junction, VT near Hanover, NH there is Amtrak that operates the Vermonter train that runs down to NYC and DC.
