Nathanael and Maya. I was up there just a couple of weeks ago. A great place to do some hiking. Are you starting a long section hike? If you go south you will have a very nice hike through Harriman State Park. On the other side of Harriman you can catch a bus back to NYC. There is a bus to get to Bear Mountain Inn (this Inn is closed for repairs and will not open any time soon) Bear Mountain is about 50-60 miles north of NYC along the Hudson River. There is a Bear Mountain Zoo and Museum, and Hessian Lake there. Bear Mountain Bridge Motel is 2 or 3 miles north of there in Fort Montgomery, NY a nice little place, hikers get a discount. If you need information on going south or north go to the Appalachian Trial Companion on-line you can copy information from that. It will give you some more information of trail towns etc. Email me if you need more information. arcwalsh@msn.com It seems like very short notice, but I'll be glad to help.

Most people will be hiking north at this time. Thru-hikers are in this area and most are hiking from the south to the north. It is also a very nice hike. You should me able to get into Massachuttes in the two week hike, maybe Vermont. If you hike north or south you should have plenty of company at shelters.
