i was just wondering how conditions were for this benevolent man we keep hearing about who sets up a big tent for hikers (in the burningtown gap area, i think?)…we never got to experience this (as we were always out a little bit too early), but it sounds awesome!..thanks, APPLE, whoever you are for your sacrificial generosity to hikers!..hope all is well out there…(PS…say ‘hello’ to ‘red ranger’ and ‘12%’ for us if they stop off at your tent!..thanks, maw-ee and paw-ee)

I do not know APPLE myself but my son JB and his friend David are currently hiking the AT and as you know the conditions have been awful. The other day they came upon a tent set up by APPLE he fed them a hot meal and a hot drink. What a blessing this trail angle was to two hungry very cold and tired young men. Many Many thanks to all who support hikers out there!!!

I spoke with apple at Burningtown gap a few weeks ago. He actually helped me get my truck out of the snow there. He decided to angel early this year since other angels are coming in March. Unfortunately for him, one of the Big snowstorms destroyed his big dome tent. He had set up a temp tent and has been helping out lots of folks this year. His last day out was yesterday as far as I know.

i continue to be ‘bowled over’ by the incredible amount of goodwill in the hiking community!..and i’m thankful for people like apple…also, thanks again to leif and zipdrive for a place like ‘trail journals’ where the needs of hikers can be made known and help offered when possible…wishing everyone the best of what the 2010 hiking season has to offer!..and God bless all the ‘angels’ out there this year!
