Husband is hiking the Colorado trail

Hi! I’m not a long distance hiker, but I dropped off my husband yesterday at the Colorado trail trailhead near Copper Mountain. I have learned about so many fires that have popped up in just the last 24 hours. Is there a way I can monitor the trails safety in regards to fire? He plans to be at Mt.Princeton Springs on Thursday, but until then, I have no contact with him.

Thank you!

Right now there are no reported fires in that area that would cause a problem.

If you go to this link you can download the location of all the fires in Colorado. It will open in Google Earth. I have the CT in Google Earth, but I don’t recall how I got it there.

The closest one is the Treasure Fire in Leadville, but from the looks of the terrain, it would have a hard time getting to the CT.

I couldn’t make the link work, but searching for acivefiremaps.fs.fed leads to it fast enough.

There don’t seem to be fires really close to CT or CDT, although all of both trails in Colorado are in High Risk areas.

I also have the CT (and the CDT) on Google Earth, and my source was bearcreeksurvey.

I think I met him today at the end of segment 11. He was doing fine but toldme he knew his wife was worried. Just thought I would let you know he is doing well.
