Well, not really, but I was looking! Just had to share this…this weekend I was on a Turkey Hunting trip with my best pal in Ashe county, NC. Probably the three best days of spring! Wildlife everywhere , deer, turkeys, grounhogs, grouse, squirrells, owls just to name what i saw…from the top spot on our hunting land, the view to the north is all the way to Mt. rogers, VA and Grayson Highlands…to the southwest, I could see all the way to Roan Mountain, TN. In between I had views of Grandfather mountain, sugar mountain, beech mountain, three top mountain and mount jefferson. I was standing on this hill at sunrise looking at the giew, listening to the turkeys gobble, the small birds twitter, and the cool breezes flush on my face. Life gets no better folks, and being so close to the trail, I was really craving driving into Damascus or Erwin to meet and greet you luck folks getty to thru hike this year…i know that this week you have probablyhad the best weather and sights and sounds you will have for the summer…i know i did. hope to see some of you later this summer when i do a section…(I’m thinking Roan to Damascus)

cya on the trail.

I remember being at Carter Gap Shelter - the new one - and there was a grouse about five yards from the shelter, beating his wings endlessly. Tentshaker and I pondered on how we would actually cook it. Little bit o’butter, little bit o’pepper . . . mmm, grouse
