I have been looking for a Walmart grease pot, but Walmart has never heard of them. I’ve been to Super Walmarts, regular Walmarts, in the cookware department, sporting goods and hunting/fishing departments, all over really. Up and down every asile. No one in any Walmart I have visited over the last six months knows what I’m talking about when I ask for it or describe it to them. Today a Walmart manager suggested I go to www.walmart.com, which I did, and put in a search for ‘grease pot’, and the search yields nothing except a book they sell which has that in the title. So what’s the secret? How do I find one? Every backpacking forum I visit has hikers talking about this piece of gear, so I’d like to look at one. Can anyone help?

In the walmart in my town the “grease pot” is located near the electric range burner bowls. It is black with a silver lid. I dont believe it is called a “grease pot”. It cost about 7 dollars. It is simply an aluminum pan for holding bacon grease or any other fat for later use. It has a strainer that fits inside of it. I am skeptical about the inner lip at the top. Will it hold bacteria. I would probably use it if the lip were an outer.

Biscuit,
Go to any Walmart or Walmart Supercenter and go to the kitchenwares section. Look for the aisle that has kitchen gadgets (spatulas, can openers, whisks etc.) and you will find the greasepot. It will be black with a tight-fitting silver top, it will not be priced, it will be near the bottom of the aisle near the floor, it will have the word “grease” stamped on the side and it has no handle. It will contain a strainer insert which has a function for the average housewife but will serve no purpose for you in your mess kit. Let me know if you think it should function better with a handle (which you will have to attach) or just “as is” and use your bandana, etc.
I am debating whether to go the grease pot route or just use an old coffee pot with a wide opening. Both about the same weight and both will handle mac and cheese.

like the others say…Wal-Marts have the grease pot…you just gotta look in the RIGHT place! why bother…just grab a Titanium pot & lid & be done with it! a few more dollars but will last forever…your Wally-world grease pot is sheeper but, will be done after a few months of use!

K-Mart has the correct grease pot, the lip is on the outside, not inside like Wal-mart.
