I know this is a bit of a stretch

but me and another hiking friend of mine are planning on heading up to Harper’s Ferry, WV (to meet another hiker, who will be finishing up his thru-hike in VA, and hike south through the Shenandoah’s with him), after a brief stop in Erwin, TN. We can likely get a ride into Damascus, but the rest of Virginia is up in the air. I know a few different trail angels in certain parts of VA, but would greatly appreciate it if some of you have the names of trail angels along this portion of the AT that could possibly help us get to Harper’s Ferry, WV.

I don’t expect 1 person to take us all the way, but a few trail angels to help us along the way would be great!

Either way, it’s not a huge deal…as long as we stick around the trail, I don’t forsee a big problem with getting a few rides, and eventually making it. I just thought some here would have suggestions.

If you haven’t already done so, contact the ATC and get their shuttle list.

I met an amazing guy named Delwood Shecterly on my thru-hike. He shuttled us around catawba then came to daleville the next day to shuttle us around town again! Sorry i don’t have his number, but you could try looking him up or maybe someone else has his number. He lives either in Catawba or in the next town over. He does shuttles from Pearisburg to Waynesboro but said he’d go as far as Damascus and Harpers. Might not charge ya much, or even at all. Great fellow. Sorry if this isn’t much help. Good luck

Nope, it’s not Moose…it’s another hiker who’s starting @ Harper’s after Katahdin, to go south to finish his hike this year.

I have Delwood’s number; he’s one I had in mind…but I didn’t realize he’d go as far as Harper’s Ferry. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, Ol’ Del, we had him in '01. He rocks, ran us all over the place from the Comfort Inn in Daleville. Dale will go to SPecial K if you buy the gas. He ran a hiker home that was sick something like 400 miles one time he said. Is Del still in medical, A-T?

Strangely enough, I happened to see Delwood’s “business” card on my dresser this morning, and then here’s a thread mentioning him!! His phone # is 540-992-1527. His email is: Dschect1@juno.com

He seems genuinely happy to help hikers. Nice guy.

Hephzibah, hey!

I’m not sure of the exact time we will need a ride up…we’re planning on meeting Curly Dan when he gets there, after he finishes the northern sections he has to do. He mentioned late October/early November, so that’s all I honestly know at this point.

How was your hike?

Double “oops!” Forgot a letter in the email.

It should be: Dschecht1@juno.com

Hope it works this time.
