I’m willing to sponsor you, but first I will need your social security number so I can fill out the tax forms. Email it to me and we’re in business.

Stimulus: I have to agree with you. I’m a conserative myself. That’s why I haven’t looked into un-employment benefits thus far.

Nimblefoot: Nice try:lol

You could “work” your way up the trail. Known several hikers who run out of money and come in to towns and get a day job, make a few extra bucks, then move on down the trail. Sounds like you are not affraid of hard work, shoveling snow aint easy. Local Hostiles might know people in their areas that they could hook you up with. Just an idea. Happy Hiking

You sound like just the type of “citizen of the world” that I “hope and believe in.”
We need more resourceful people just like you. Willing to take from “those who have” and feel that it is “just and right” to do so.
My stumulus programs are designed to help you in your time of despair - trying to do what you are destined to do and be paid by others to do so - just to keep you happy and voting(Democratic).
Please send a note to my friend Nancy Pelosi - tell her that I have offered you a special resident status(use the pet names we have for each other “Nugy” {she calls me “Bouy”}) - no need to report for unemployment in your home state, no need to document your pursuit of employment, even no need to pay for your health insurance (We agree that No one should have to pay for that God given right) - If you have trouble reaching her - send the note to my other BFF - Harry Reid {Huey}. (who thinks he is even more powerful than {Nugy})
You’ll be fine. The checks will be sent to PO’s along the trail.
Any trail friends who deserve this also - just forward their name and the same deal is available for them all.
And when you get to Harper’s Ferry - let Axelrod know - he’ll have a limo meet you and bring you to the garden at the White House - Michelle has plenty organic produce you could pick & we’ll even have a beer in the rose garden.

I need a benefactor too. Pills cost money. My money is put towards feeding my fat conservative ass.

In all seriousness, you are unlikely to get a sponsor for hiking the AT. The trail has simple been hiked too many times with multiple media accounts documenting various peoples efforts. So, for the most part, outdoors oriented companies view an AT hike as old-news in a way. That is not to say the accomplishment of a thru-hike is diminished, just that the adventure world is not so enamored with the AT as once may have been the case.

Some exceptions likely exist though. For example, hiking for a charity or cause. Of course, this has also been done many many times. But, your chance of finding a sponsor probably increases because you are not limited to outdoor and adventure related businesses. The most likely scenario is that you might be able to find some companies that will support your hike with “in-kind” donations of gear or food. Your chances of getting “in-kind” support increases dramatically with new companies trying to build a niche in the world of adventure gear of whatever variety.

Despite all the political hyperbolic BS being tossed around on this thread, there is virtually no chance whatsoever of obtaining any type of government funding.

If you have writing talent and self-discipline, you may want to pursue writing a number of articles for your local paper or local magazine publication about your hike as it progresses. Your not going to make alot of money this way, but combined with other efforts like picking up odd jobs along the way, it would be a nice supplemental.

Good luck!

In the mid-life crises some five years ago, I just took out a loan to cover the thru and back-home expenses…well worth the interest, tenfold. It helped to keep economy out of the equation for a reason to quit. Do take Old Goat and W’s advice to heart though,“we just need more massive tax cuts for the super-wealthy, it worked good before’ didn’t it?”
